Customers are mixed about the quality of the watch. Some mention it's excellent quality, a solid watch, and reliable. They say it'll survive quite a bit of hard duty flying on and off ships at sea. An over-engineered aviation watch with an original design
4 Stars
An over-engineered aviation watch with an original design
This is an excellent buy, especially on Amazon, Macy's was selling it for $725.00! (though it's now on sale for $580.00 on their site.) The watch can be quite confusing with its abundance of features and busy dial. Luckily, I like that for an aviation watch, but people with average and below average vision may hate it. The print is quite small. If you read the manual and search online, eventually you will learn how to set the alarms, choose different time zones, receive a signal and more. Setting NYC seems impossible though, it never comes up when setting the zone, but comes up when using other features. The watch is very durable, I managed to drop it on granite from about 5+ feet and it continued working without any issue. One side of the lug did get banged up, but it's not very noticeable. The finish on the watch is excellent with brushed lugs and sides. The coin bezel surrounds a polished surface. Citizen seems to finish better on models at this price range compared to Seiko. The pull-out crown is signed with an etched surfaced all around. The crown for the internal compass is similar, while the two surrounding buttons are polished and shaped like something out of an aircraft. The aircraft theme continues to the dial and sub-dials which look like gauges. The radio controlled time seems to work on and off. Sometimes I get a signal, other times I don't. Atmospheric conditions will contribute to signal attenuation. Regardless, it manages to keep accurate time often enough without having to set the time manually. It worked well during day light savings. I really like the battery indicator, I think it's essential with a watch as functional as the Navihawk. Some of the small drawbacks for me would be the lume, bracelet, and unusual lug width. When the watch is not exposed to high amounts of natural or artificial light, the lume is quite poor. I know this is often the case with many watches, but some of Seiko's divers illuminate much more at a fraction of the cost. This doesn't mean you wont be able to read the watch in dark conditions, the lume should be adequate, which matters the most. The LED backlight for the digital windows isn't vibrant either. Again, it will be legible at night, but Casio watches have much better backlights despite being significantly cheaper. ** The picture I attached with the watch illuminated is when it was exposed to LED light. This keeps the treated hands and indices charged for a short time ** The bracelet looks great, and it will attract a-lot of attention, but it can be uncomfortable. The underside of the clasp feels like its digging into your skin. Unfortunately the lug width is an awkward 23mm, so it will be a difficult task to find straps and other bracelets that fit properly. I have three leather straps which are 22mm. They still fit well enough, but the spring bar will be partially visible. If you want a quality leather strap, I suggest Hirsch.Overall, it is surely an excellent aviation watch with an original design. I felt conflicted trying to choose the Seiko Flightmaster, which resembles the Breitling Navitimer, or the Navihawk. The Flightmaster is still calling me, but the Navihawk has too many strengths over the competition: Radio-Controlled time, solar powered eco drive, digital LED display with multiple time zones and backlight, and an internal compass. There are things I still need to learn with this watch, which keeps it exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pilot watch for the money!
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2015
This watch exceeded my expectations even after reading the comments. As an aviator this watch will ensure you don't miss the time hack, and is visible night and day. Last week, I took a picture and noticed after the flight the seconds displayed in the aircrafts GPS time was matched exactly with the second hand of the watch....wow. Anyone who needs accurate timing and practical uses while looking sharp Should consider this piece. As an aside I know many folks don't care for the band, but I actually prefer it. It's awesome! I can't stop looking at this time piece! If I ever need a replacement it will be the same model!

Update 7 Years Later:
I've flown all over the world, in all types of aircraft with this watch and it keeps perfect time to the second still with the atomic clock radio update. I was able to update in parts of Africa (not always), The Middle East/Aisa, and in Hong Kong, and across Europe.

It's survived quite a bit, hard duty flying on and off ships at sea, (the Radar has fried multiple other Casios for reference which is why I bought this because of the certified ANTIMAG 4800 spec, it didn't fall short of that spec or it would have been fried like my previous Casios) It survived a road bike, and hard landing/Crash (from an engine failure prior to landing)

The crystal has been scratched and I took it to a jeweler to be cleaned and get a citizen original band for the same model I even tried ordering direct from Citizen but was unsuccessful. I've gone through 2 other Barton bands which have a good look. The glass we couldn't get the deeper scratches out, it's not a hardened sapphire but if that is my only complain than I'm doing pretty good. It still doesn't look too bad though, picture on the wrist attached.
Even today I looked at the GPS system time in the aircraft and the watch was perfectly in sync to the second.
Due to the nostalgia I have from traveling with this watch I think I might elect to retire it, but for the cost I doubt I can do much better. I suspect for good luck on next check rides etc. I will break this watch out and be the same old friend by my side as it has for the years since purchase. I know that it will continue to be as reliable as the air beneath my wings.

I HIGHLY encourage if you are thinking about the watch to buy it. It IS a beauty, while being a silent steward that never gives up and is precise while enduring the unreal adventure that you might be thinking of starting next.

This is an absolutely gorgeous watch. The best I have ever owned! In times where smartwatches rule the trend, a traditional watch like this still holds the charm, and in some style. This gizmo is so versatile, it goes well on formal wear and casual/sport wear with equal ease.
About the features, it’s loaded. I just wish it had a compass. It would be a perfect watch, but then again it almost is! Timekeeping is super accurate down to the second, thanks to its atomic syncing. I can’t say enough good things about the watch. It’s priced reasonably, so it’s great vfm! If you can, don’t think for a second, just buy it!
P.S: I have a skinny wrist, but still holds up pretty well!
