My one caution is that the sides are not firm, so you should probably not pack anything that needs to be kept absolutely flat, like a laptop, in the suitcase. Save that for your personal item.
I used it during my two-week trip in Sichuan Province. It was checked in for twice as checked-in luggage, and although there were little trails of scratches, the functions of the suitcase remained the same.
It is a lightweight, durable and "smart" suitcase of high quality. If you need a high-capacity suitcase for long trips or international travles, this would be a great choice.
The only disadvantage of this suitcase is its 50/50 internal design - this made it hard sometimes to carry large items, since each half of the suitcase would be locked inside a zipper. But for clothes, small items, etc, it works perfectly.
It rolls wonderfully but like all rollers it is a little harder on carpeting. This last trip I locked it but didn't do it in proper order and couldn't open it. I had to start at 000 and start counting up one at a time and try to push the slide after each number. After about an hour I got to 256 and it opened. That must have been the number it was set to when I locked it wrong. You can eventually open it if you try every number between 000 and 999. You would need a few hours and you'll end up with a sore thumb from pushing the slide each time. You also have to pay attention to where you left off when you take a break. Since I got locked out I now have the instructions written down on my phone so it won't happen again. It is a strong well-made suitcase and I love I can easily walk it along side me in the airport.
Bought the 1st one 2 years ago and 1 last year
I am a frequent flyer (24 to 30 flights a year) and have no issues so far
There are some scrapes and scratches but knowing how the luggage gets handled that is really nothing
Most of the scrapes can be washed off
Not the scratches
It’s a really light weight sturdy suitcase
I recommend it
Update: after yesterday’s flight I noticed that on the suitcase that I bought 3 years ago, the attachments are damaged and have been tearing and I fear that this could imply that there is a risk that my suitcase could rip open during handling. I will contact Samsonite to see what can be done but I have little hope this can be fixed at a reasonable price. Maybe they are not made to last longer than 70- 100 flights. We will see.
On the Samsonite that I bought recently the wheel came off but was easily fixed by purchasing a new screw.
