Finally, there is an easier, more effective alternative to string floss: the Waterpik Cordless Plus Water Flosser WP 450. The WP 450 is ideal for those who don't like to floss, as well as for anyone with braces, implants, crowns, bridges, or periodontal pockets. Water flossing for about a minute a day conveniently and comfortably removes up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas and gently massages the gums to improve overall oral health. The WP 450 is clinically proven to be up to twice as effective as string floss at improving gum health, and three times as effective as string floss for cleaning plaque and debris around braces.
Four Unique Tips Clean in Specialized Ways
Offering four unique tips: the Plaque Seeker Tip, the Classic Jet Tip, the Orthodontic Tip, and the Tongue Cleaner, the WP 450 thoroughly cleans your whole mouth.
The Plaque Seeker Tip removes plaque in hard-to-reach areas around implants, crowns, bridges and other dental work. For healthier gums, the Classic Jet Tip reaches below the gumline to keep your mouth healthy.
Those who wear braces will appreciate the Orthodontic Tip--it's three times as effective as floss when it comes to removing plaque around braces. And the Tongue Cleaner removes bacteria from your tongue to help freshen breath.
Dual Water Pressure Control System
With the WP 450's dual water pressure control system, you can personalize your water pressure intensity. Choose either a gentle or more powerful pressure to meet your needs. The WP 450 uses a unique combination of water pressure and pulsations to massage and stimulate gums, removing plaque deep between teeth and below the gumline where traditional brushing and flossing can't reach.
Rechargeable Design Provides Flexibility
The cordless, rechargeable design of this WP 450 lets you walk away from the charger for maximum mobility and convenience. Never worry about batteries running out. Simply recharge the unit between uses. In addition, the WP 450's improved shape takes up less space on the bathroom countertop, and an advanced, ergonomic handle with non-slip grip fits securely in your hand.
Waterpik Cordless Plus Water Flosser WP 450 is backed by a two-year warranty.

I bought this portable job after researching the counter top edition and seeing that this one performs the same task, with the same assurances of better oral health, but doesn't take up counter space (of which I have none) and is just a lot less to fuss with in terms of cleaning, worrying about hose length, and generally just being a lot more bulk to deal with.
It's the first Waterpik I've ever tried, and I got it because I'm lazy with flossing and I shouldn't be, so I was looking for a better, quicker way to accomplish some good oral hygiene -- basically a cheat for being a lousy flosser....
Out of the box, it looks and feels like the kind of thing a dentist would use -- solid, well-built, easy to operate, and came with everything needed. It does require an initial 24 hour charge. But, impressive to look at, so that seemed a good sign. All the parts clicked and fit perfectly, and it comes with four "nozzles" or attachments, just like advertised in the photos.
I'm only a few days into using it, so, as a say, I'll update if things go sideways, but, my first experience is that I really love it!
I did watch some vids on YT to get a sense of how to use it, and it's easy once you get the hang of it. Just put it in your mouth, place it where you want to start cleaning -- close your mouth somewhat to keep in the spray (very important ahaha, as I found out when I forgot to do that), then hit the "on" button, and it does the job, shooting a firm stream of water. As the instructions say, just move along the gum line at a 90 degree kind of angle, and yes indeed, it does a GREAT job!
I found that, because the on/off switch is right in my hand, it's easy to do a section at a time, turning it off in between (excuse the gross out) to, ahem, spit. I can do it in four neat sections, stopping to rid the accumulated water, a section at a time. The instructions say to just let the water run out of your mouth, but that is a bit more messy, and I wasn't a fan.
It does work QUICKLY so it's not like my electric toothbrush where you have time to kind of focus on each tooth, since this one has a limited reservoir, and it runs out pretty fast, plus your mouth fills up with water might fast too.
And, that actually makes it a fast job -- as they say in the instructions, about a minute and a half and you're done, working top and bottom, and I did both the "outer" side and "inner" side of my teeth, if that makes sense....
My mouth was definitely super clean. I opted for warm water and then poured some mouthwash in there -- worked terrific and my mouth felt like I'd just come from the hygienist. NO mouth pain at all, but then again I'm doing as they suggest, starting at low, then eventually going to the high setting.
So, yup, a happy camper here! It's quick, painless, effective and adds just a few minutes to the oral health routine, for (according to all the research I could find on it) the huge benefit of far superior oral hygiene, for us lazy flossers out there.
I highly recommend!!!

1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud!
** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But not that loud to me(i.e. I am a bit hard of hearing) My woman says it is not that loud and she has great hearing**
-----> It's definitely not as loud as a standard plugged-in Waterpik. That's like a jackhammer. I was pleasantly surprised that this one isn't too loud yet still has the same pressure.
2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds.
** Maybe this user has a leak in his unit. I use mine for about 30 seconds until all food is removed and I still have half of the water left. And yes I am using the High pressure setting. **
-----> Maybe your unit is messed up and its high pressure setting is really a low pressure setting. On the high pressure setting, the water runs out after probably 15 seconds. I fill it up once for each quadrant of my mouth, which means I fill it up a total of 4 times. If you are doing this at the sink, this is no problem at all because filling it up takes about 5 seconds. If you want to use this in the shower, you're out of luck. You're not going to be able to fill it up with your shower stream. What you'd have to do is turn the shower knob so the water comes out of the tub faucet and fill it up there. That would be a huge inconvenience.
3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't control it.
** Mine doesn't. Of course I have only had it a month. **
-----> I don't have this problem either. It might move slightly, you just have to move with it.
4. It is poorly designed, too large, and difficult to hold (Can't imagine if you have small hands).
** I thought it was well ergonomically designed. I have nerve damage in my hand that makes it hard to hold on to things and get tops off of bottles but I had no problem holding the WP-450 Ultra. I think it is most excellent! **
-----> If you have small hands you could just hold it higher up on the neck where its narrower. You don't have to hold it at the basin, although I do. Although it is definitely surprisingly bulky, it has to be (I couldn't tolerate it if I had to refill 8 times).
5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially for 16 hours!).
** I have only charged my unit for 8 hours and have been using once a day for a month. I has not slacked off one bit in pumping the water out. **
-----> Your unit must have an insanely good battery. I haven't counted but it definitely needs to be recharged after a few days. Also, as he said, there is no indicator or light or anything to tell you whether it is fully charged which is odd.
6. Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
** Yes that is usually the case for older models. They usually do cost less than newer models as the cost of production is higher than years ago. It is actually 61.4 % higher in cost. The old unit uses Ni-Cad batteries as the new one uses more expensive L-Ion or NiMH batteries hence the higher cost and the L-Ion battery can hold a charge longer. **
-----> This device is extremely powerful at cleaning out the gums and could potentially save you thousands of dollars, or at least some extra pain, at the dentist. I don't know how it compares to other handheld waterpiks, but it's definitely so much nicer to use than the plug-in waterpiks which sound like jackhammers and take up so much space. If you hate wires, this is for you.
9. Weak water stream.
** You've got to be kidding. It has two settings and is way better then the WP-360 and about the same pressure as the Panasonic model. Are you sure you have it charged up? **
-----> The water stream is very powerful. A lot of people might find they need to stick to the gentle setting. You couldn't possibly need more pressure.
----------------------------------------------
So again, I highly recommend this product, but it is not as perfect as the front page review might have you believe. Some of the negative reviews do have valid points, but I am not so picky. It works well and is invaluable, as far as I'm concerned, because healthy gums mean a healthier body, and this certainly makes your gums healthier than flossing alone (I don't use this as a floss replacement -- I use this before I floss, and I find that it makes flossing much easier and rarely does anything come out on the floss).
